Father and son Verstappen write history on Zandvoort

A massive crowd came out to watch how father and son Verstappen wrote history at Circuit Park Zandvoort this Sunday afternoon. Never before were two Formula 1-drivers, from one family, to be found on the 2,67 mile long track. Thousands of spectators bore witness how Max and Jos both drove a mini-race in the dunes. No top time was put down, because the track was damp due to a freshly fallen rain shower, but this was by no means a spoiler. At the end of the short session, the duo were treated to a great round of applause from the grandstand and the dunes.
Both gentlemen had already gone on track earlier that day. Max did that in a Red Bull RB8, that had gotten a Scuderia Toro Rosso livery for this occasion. Jos did the same in a Minardi PS03, the car he drove with at Minardi in his Formula 1-2003 season. The run with his son was done in a Minardi PS01.
For Max it was a pleasant meeting up again with the Dutch circuit, on which he, a little less over a year ago, took credit for winning the Zandvoort Masters: “It is great to return back here with a Formula 1-car.” That Formula 1 is immensely popular again in the Netherlands was more than evident. The crowd came out in droves. “I am happy that I also contributed to that”, says Max, who emphasised that today was more about having fun with times having no significance.
Nevertheless, he had to put his foot down. "It was unique to share the track with my dad, both in Formula 1 cars. I had to work for it to keep up with him as his car is quicker on the straights", explaind a delighted Verstappen junior.
Father Jos was also having a ball in Zandvoort: “It is something special to drive a Formula 1-car in front of such a big crowd. It is great fun and it is even more fun to drive around with your own son on the circuit.”
All the Formula 1-cars, including the Coloni’s and Ferrari V12 in which Jan Lammers, Frits van Eerd and Arie Luyendijk did their demo runs, were all well-liked by the crowd: every time they drove by, the crowd got up just not to miss out on anything. The fact that the cars had the ‘classic’ Formula 1-sound, contributed even more to the fun.
