Max looking forward to Barcelona: 'Always trying to win'

Published on 01 June 2023 by Misha van der Kroon

Max Verstappen travelled from Monaco to Barcelona, where the Spanish Grand Prix will be held this weekend. The two-time Formula 1 World Champion looks back on the past race weekend, which was held in Monaco where he resides, and explains: “A race weekend in Monaco is always chaotic and hectic. Coming into the weekend we knew that it probably was not going to be our strongest weekend, because our car does not perform great on such circuits. The result however was great. It was a tough race with a very long stint on the medium tyres, and then of course the rain started to come down. That is not the nicest thing to happen when you’re in the lead in Monaco.”

Max continues: “As soon as the Grand Prix of Monaco was over, I was already looking forward to this weekend. This is a real race circuit, which is where a Formula 1-car really comes to life. On top of that, our car should perform well on this circuit, so I am looking forward to this weekend.”

So far, Oracle Red Bull Racing has had an amazing start of the season winning all of the six races. Max has won four of them. When asked if Red Bull could win every race this season, he answers: “If we look at our speed at this moment, I think we can win every race. But it is very unlikely. A lot happens during a race weekend, and everybody makes mistakes.”

“Of course we always try to win, that is the goal. In the end, we want to win both world titles, just like last year and that’s what we’re fighting for. And I also really enjoy driving this car,” Max concludes.
