Nurburgring 24 Hours, 12:00-15:00: Disappointment for #3 Verstappen Racing

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6162/

After an eventful start to the 54th edition of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, which this year attracted a record crowd of 352,000 spectators, the #3 Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing car took the lead for the first time after three hours of racing. That sparked an hours-long battle fought on a knife-edge, with the lead changing hands repeatedly with the other factory-backed Mercedes-AMG, car #80.

In the end, it was that car – driven by Maro Engel, Luca Stolz, Fabian Schiller and Maxime Martin, and starting from P20 – that won the legendary endurance race on the iconic Nordschleife after Verstappen Racing retired with three hours remaining due to a driveshaft failure.

Nurburgring 24 Hours, 06:00-09:00: Leading #3 Verstappen Racing forced to retire

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6161/

The number 3 car of Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing managed to extend its lead between 9.00 am and 11.30 am to more than half a minute over the other factory-backed Mercedes-AMG, car #80, until disaster struck and the team’s hopes of victory in the 54th edition of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring ended in technical retirement instead.

“It was good,” Max explained after his stint on Sunday morning, when Verstappen Racing was still leading. “Back in the daylight, trying to stay safe while still maintaining good pace and staying out of trouble. It felt good, the car was working well.”

Speaking about driving a GT3 car, Max added: “The competition, endurance style racing with team-mates. A 24-hour race, especially here, is incredibly challenging. That whole combination.” Will we see you back here next year? “I will for sure try, but it also depends on my calendar.”

“My stint went well. I did have some traffic at the start, which was difficult to get through. After that, it was slippery because of the rain and that’s where I was able to make the difference. The car felt good and I tried to stay out of trouble, whilst also trying to push and be on the limit. That’s always a difficult compromise to strike, but it went well.”

Verstappen Racing qualifies fourth for 24h Nurburgring

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6153/

Verstappen Racing has qualified fourth for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, which will start on Saturday afternoon at 15:00 Dutch time. Dani Juncadella, driving the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3, finished within nine tenths of the fastest time on the 25.3-kilometre circuit known as the Green Hell.

On Friday afternoon, the twelve fastest GT3 cars prepare to battle for pole position for the 54th edition of the legendary 24 Hours of Nürburgring on the famous Nordschleife. Dani Juncadella is on duty for Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing, after Max Verstappen took part in Top Qualifying 2, and Lucas Auer drove during Top Qualifying 1. A different driver is required for each session.

The final phase, Top Qualifying 3, follows a shoot-out format: all twelve remaining cars are shown the green flag one by one, ensuring everyone has a clear track to complete two flying laps. After some rain, the track has largely dried up, although a few damp patches remain.

Max qualifies for the battle for pole at the Ring: 'Goal achieved'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6152/

Max Verstappen ensured Verstappen Racing booked its place in the Nurburgring 24 Hours Top Qualifying 3, allowing the team to contest for pole. In Top Qualifying 1, Lucas Auer ensured Verstappen Racing progressed to Top Qualifying 2, in which Max finished sixth.

“I felt good in the car. Of course, our goal was to get into the Top Qualifying 3. That isn’t an easy task with this level of competition. There are a lot of fast cars, but we managed to do it. The last lap was just fast enough. Luckily it was dry and the car felt good.”

Max also reflected on his first Nordschleife laps in the night. “Yesterday, there were a lot of changing conditions and for me it was the first time in probably the worst circumstances with the rain and fog. But at least it gave me a good idea of what could be coming our way in the race.”

Max sets third-fastest time in first qualifying of 24h Nurburgring

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6150/

Max Verstappen has set the third-fastest time in the first qualifying session for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring on behalf of Verstappen Racing. The four-time Formula 1 world champion spent a large part of the session behind the wheel. The qualifying session, which Max and the rest of the team view primarily as preparation for the remainder of the weekend, was disrupted by several yellow flags and changing weather conditions.

This year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours has attracted heightened interest from spectators. With 161 participating teams, it marks the largest field the event has seen in 10 years. For the first time in the event’s history, weekend tickets have sold out, and an estimated 300,000 spectators are expected around the circuit. Max will compete in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 prepared by Winward Racing, shared with Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon, and Lucas Auer.

Q1 is the first of multiple qualifying sessions that will determine which teams advance to Top Qualifying later in the weekend. Verstappen’s team competes in the SP9 class for GT3 cars, the fastest category in the field. In total, participants are divided across 23 different classes. The SP9 class, together with the SP11, SP-PRO, SP-X, and AT1S classes, will later battle for pole position during the Top Qualifying sessions. For these top classes, the regular qualifying sessions mainly serve as preparation.

Max set for 24h Nurburgring debut: 'Success would mean winning'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6149/

Max Verstappen is set to take on one of endurance racing’s most demanding challenges this week as he makes his debut at the 24h Nürburgring at the legendary Nordschleife. The four-day event begins with qualifying on 14-15 May, before the 24-hour race will take place on 16-17 May.

The 24h Nürburgring is marking a totally new challenge for Max. It is one of endurance racing’s toughest tests and it is Max’s first crack at the 24-hour format and at this level. The four-time F1 world champion’s own team, Verstappen Racing, fields a Mercedes-AMG GT3 run by Team Winward Racing, with co-drivers Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer.

“What the team mainly represents is also creating opportunities for other drivers”, says Max. “I started with an idea in mind of racing outside of Formula 1 myself, but at the same time – through the sim racing world – I wanted to create opportunities for a sim racer to go to the real world. That already worked with Chris (Lulham) so far.”

Max continues: “One of the biggest races of the year is of course the 24 hours of the Nürburgring, that’s why we are here. We are entering with a pro lineup and with myself in the lineup, that is really cool. It's also something I want to do every single year, with one car or multiple cars. The main objective and goal is to win races.”

After a spin on the opening lap, Max began a recovery drive, which he continued after being the only one of the front-runners to make a pit stop during an early safety car period. He then completed 51 of the 57 laps on the same set of hard tyres.

Kimi Antonelli had to work hard but ultimately converted his pole position, finishing ahead of the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The Ferrari of Charles Leclerc was on course for a podium for a long time, but a spin on the penultimate lap dropped him back to P6.

With Isack, we're not yet in the position where he can really push the car but it was also a good effort from him. We don’t think we have fixed everything we need to fix, but we are certainly heading in the right direction based on what we have seen this weekend. We know we need more of that and we will take take all the opportunities tomorrow to keep improving.”

Max starts Miami GP from P2: 'Much better than expected'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6142/

After finishing fifth in the sprint race earlier on Saturday, Max Verstappen qualifies in second position for Sunday’s race after a strong qualifying session. At the Miami International Autodrome, Kimi Antonelli takes pole position in his Mercedes, with Charles Leclerc lining up third. The McLaren of Lando Norris and the Mercedes of George Russell complete the top five. Max’s Oracle Red Bull Racing teammate Isack Hadjar sets the ninth-fastest time.

“For me, it has been two things,” Max says after qualifying. “I didn't feel comfortable with the car, and over the past few weeks the team has pushed flat out to bring upgrades to the car and make me feel more comfortable with a lot of things on the car, and it really pays off. I feel more in control of the car again, so I can push harder. The upgrades are working, and being on the front row here is much better than I expected heading into this weekend.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, Max adds: “Let’s first start with a good start, I haven’t had a lot of them this year. We’ll definitely look at that and see what the weather does tomorrow, but I’m already very happy with where we are. From here, there is light at the end of the tunnel. We can push on and try to close the gap further.”

Max fifth in Miami sprint: 'That part was good'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6141/

Max Verstappen finished fifth in the second sprint race of the season in Miami, having started from P5 on the grid. Lando Norris won the race for McLaren, ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri in P2. At the Miami International Autodrome, Charles Leclerc drove his Ferrari to P3. The Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell initially completed the top five. Shortly after the race, Antonelli received a five-second penalty for track limits, promoting Russell to P4 and Max to P5, while Antonelli dropped back to P6. Max’s Oracle Red Bull Racing teammate Isack Hadjar finished just outside the points in P9.

“We were at least racing the cars ahead of us again, so that was good,” Max said after the Miami sprint. “At the start we had the same issue as in China, that still wasn’t right. And coming out of the final corner on lap one I had no boost, so something went wrong there as well, and that’s why I lost that position to Lewis.”

Max continued: “After that I just drove my race and managed to close back in once I’d resolved the engine setting issues. From that point it looked alright, but I still have the problem with the rear of the car, where it bounces a lot. Especially in the slower corners, when the car bounces like that, the wheels lose contact with the ground and that costs lap time. It’s good that we’re fighting the Mercedes cars ahead again, because that’s what it’s all about. That part was good.”

Lambiase after sprint qualifying Miami: 'Very positive day'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6140/

GianPiero Lambiase, head of racing of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after Max Verstappen’s P5 in sprint qualifying in Miami: “It was a very positive day for us as a team. The break between the races has given all teams the opportunity to really reflect on the first test and first couple of races. We have been able to understand the limitations on the car and understand any issues that have been hindering the balance and I think as a team we have done that very well.”

Lambiase continued: “We have got on top of, not only generic performance, but also some more fundamental issues with the car that we had and Max is feeling extremely comfortable and that reflected in his performance today. Overall, it has been a very good day and a positive start but we won’t stop there, we will look to build on that overnight.”

Max Verstappen fifth in sprint qualifying in Miami: 'Really positive step'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6139/

Max Verstappen qualified in fifth place for the Miami sprint race. In the exciting sprint qualifying, the tables appeared to have turned against Mercedes, with McLaren apparently back at the top of the pecking order. Lando Norris took pole position, with McLaren-teammate Oscar Piastri in P3. Kimi Antonelli drove a hard race to place his Mercedes inbetween the two papaya cars. Max Verstappen was, with a 1:28.461 time, almost six-tenths slower than Norris, and ended up in fifth place.

After qualifying, Max shared some thoughts on the strides the RB22 has taken over the break: “It feels more together. Of course, there are still things we are working on, but it’s been a really positive step for us. The last few races, we were almost a second behind. We are almost half that gap now, so that’s positive. We are still very weak in the first sector, which is mainly high speed, so we know that we need to work on that. But yes, the rest seems a bit more together, so I’m a bit happier with that. We’ve cleared the midfield. It’s still not where I want it to be, but it’s allowing me to trust it a bit more.”

Max in Miami: 'One of my favourite places in the world'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6137/

Due to the cancellation of the Saudi Arabian and Bahrain Grands Prix, Max Verstappen enjoyed an unexpected break from Formula 1 in April. It means the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver heads to this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix refreshed.

“It was a great break, I wish it lasted longer”, smiles Max as he addresses the media in the Miami paddock. “It was great to race in different series, and I really enjoyed my time at home. But even with a break like this, it feels great to be back. I like being in Miami, it’s one of my favourite places in the world.”

After a challenging start to the 2026 season, although hopeful, Max remains realistic. “The team has really pushed to understand our problems and work on improvements. Hopefully we can be closer to our competitors and escape the midfield battle.”

Mekies ahead of Miami GP: 'Car more comfortable to push with'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6136/

Due to the situation in the Middle East, the Grands Prix of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled, leaving a five-week gap after the Japanese race. Laurent Mekies, team principal and CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing said ahead of the Miami GP: “Everyone at Oracle Red Bull Racing is excited to be going racing again after the enforced break. There is no denying that these past few weeks have proved useful for teams, the FIA and Formula 1: for the teams to further develop these very new cars and for all three parties to work together to fine tune the regulations based on learnings from the first three Grands Prix. Effectively, Miami will be a reboot for the season, after this unexpected and exceptionally long hiatus.”

Jos Verstappen third after first day in Wallonie: 'We won't give up'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6134/

Jos Verstappen has finished the first day of the 43rd Rallye de Wallonie, which counts towards the Belgian Rally Championship (BRC), in third place. After setting the fastest time in the opening stage, the pendulum of good fortune quickly turned against car #1 with a 40-second time penalty for speeding on a liaison section, demoting Verstappen and his co-pilot, Jasper Vermeulen, to P17. The remainder of the day was spent making up as much time as possible, and starting the climb back up the standings.

This weekend, Verstappen competes alongside a new co-driver, Jasper Vermeulen, in the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 prepared by Sarrazin Motorsport. Longtime-teammate Renaud Jamoul broke his ankle earlier this week and was deemed unable to participate. “Despite being determined to still get into the car, I had to undergo surgery because my ankle was broken in two places,” the unfortunate Belgian announced on the eve of the event.

Thierry previews DTM at Red Bull Ring: 'The aim is high'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6133/

For the fourth year in succession, Thierry Vermeulen competes in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), one of the world’s most prestigious touring car championships, consisting of eight rounds. The 23-year-old ambitious Dutch racing driver continues racing in a Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, run by the Swiss Emil Frey Racing team, under the support of Verstappen Racing.

This weekend the first round will be held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Thierry said: “It’s time to kick off the DTM season with the first round this weekend at the Red Bull Ring, the track where we had the pre-season test a couple of weeks ago. It’s been a long pre-season and we’ve done a lot of testing given that we have a new car with the Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, which has a new aero package and new suspension. So there was plenty to explore and hopefully we can squeeze even more out of it.”

Damage prevents Verstappen Racing from claiming decent result: 'We had fun'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6131/

Following an excellent opening stint during the second race of the 24h Qualifiers race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, in which Max Verstappen took the lead after starting from fifth, Verstappen Racing finished in P38, following lengthy repairs to their Mercedes-AMG GT3.

“In the second lap of my second stint, I realised something was wrong as the front splitter was broken”, said Max after the four-hour race. “It’s odd, because I didn’t touch anyone, so we’ll have to investigate what caused this and find a solution.”

Despite the disappointing result, it was beneficial afternoon for Max. “I had fun and the car felt good, so I’m happy with that. I also managed to do my stints, in traffic as well, which was pretty intense. I had fights with other GT3 cars, so it was good preparation for the 24h race. I’m as ready as I can be. The only things I haven’t done is drive in the dark.”

Verstappen and Auer qualify sixth for the four-hour 24h Qualifiers race tonight

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6127/

Max Verstappen and Lucas Auer qualified sixth for the first race of the Nürburgring 24h Qualifiers event. The Qualifiers is a separate event held ahead of the main Nürburgring 24-hour race in May, allowing an opportunity for teams to practice and prepare. Driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Verstappen Racing, the duo are competing against 126 other teams. The weekend includes two four-hour races, with the second scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Update: Following qualifying, Auer had to report to the stewards due to contacting with the #941 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, causing the car to spin. The team received a three-place grid penalty, so Verstappen Racing will start the race from ninth position.

Qualifying for the race began at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and was scheduled to last 90 minutes. About 20 minutes into the session, it was red-flagged following a heavy crash from driver Anders Buchard, who hit the guardrail at high speed in his Aston Marton in the infamous Adenauer Forest section. The session was halted for around 50 minutes to allow for repairs to the barriers. Thankfully for the remaining teams, the clock was stopped during the interruption.

Jos second in BRC TAC Rally: 'We're driving on the limit'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6125/

Jos Verstappen and his co-driver Renaud Jamoul finished second in the TAC Rally in Tielt, part of the Belgian Rally Championship (BRC). The reigning Belgian Champions swapped their Citroën C3 Rally2 for their trusted Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, prepared by Sarrazin Motorsport.

Jos explains: “We tested and the Skoda simply feels more comfortable. We’ve always had strong results with Skoda and we have a lot of information and data on the Belgian rallies, so that’s why.”

Ahead of the start, Jos said: “It’s a tricky rally because of the different types of asphalt, which means varying levels of grip. It will be a matter of finding our rhythm at the beginning. I expect it to be very close, and it will come down to the form of the day. The competition has a bit more experience here than I do, as they’ve driven here more often. We want to perform well. It will be important to stay focused and avoid mistakes.”

Mekies after Max's eighth-place finish at Suzuka: 'A lot of work to do'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6123/

Laurent Mekies, team principal and CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after the Japanese Grand Prix: “Today we learned a lot more about where our car’s current limitations are. It was important for us to get involved in those battles and for both Max and Isack to complete the race distance, so we could continue to gather more data. Of course, we have a lot of work to do and we now have a few weeks to try and find some fixes for those limitations."

Max P11 in Suzuka qualifying: 'We have a lot of problems'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6120/

Max Verstappen will start the Japanese Grand Prix from 11th on the grid after stranding in Q2 of qualifying. Kimi Antonelli took pole position ahead of Mercedes’ teammate George Russell. Oscar Piastri completed the top three in his McLaren.

“It was a bit like yesterday”, said Max after a challenging session. “We had issues with the aero and I couldn’t attack a single corner. We had a lot of oversteer into the corner but than in the middle of the corner the car wouldn’t turn. It’s weird and I don’t really know what to make of it. The bad thing is that I’m not even angry any more, I’m past that stage.”

Although the pace has not been there throughout the weekend, FP3 appeared to be a slight improvement. “The car was more stable at the rear but there was still a lot of understeer, but in quali the car keeps stepping out into the high-speed corners. In the middle of the corner, it turns into understeer. We have a lot of problems and it changes what the issue is.”

Ahead of the Sunday’s Grand Prix, Max remains realistic about the issues he has had with the starts thus far in 2026. “The car doesn’t stall, but the starts are still very bad.”

Monaghan after Friday in Japan: 'Upgrades are working'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6118/

Paul Monaghan, chief engineering of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after the free practice sessions on Friday at Suzuka: “You can see from our pace that the car isn’t performing to the usual standards that we set ourselves and the overall lap time is not good. It has been quite challenging, but we’ve identified some things that are wrong with the car and we particularly need to work to correct the balance and the grip. Now it is a case of confirming all the issues and understanding them enough to be able to make effective changes ahead of tomorrow.”

Max on P10 after first day in Japan: 'A lot of work to be done'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6117/

After closing the first free practice in Japan in seventh, Max put in the tenth-fastest time in the second session. Oscar Piastri for McLaren was the fastest man on track, followed by Kimi Antonelli in P2. Mercedes teammate George Russell rounded out the top three in third. On the Suzuka circuit, Lando Norris in the Mclaren and Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari rounded out the top five. Max’s Oracle Red Bull Racing-teammate, Isack Hadjar, was fifteenth-fastest by day’s end.

“Yeah (the session) was not very good, to be honest.” Max shared truthfully after the training. “We struggled a lot more with balance of the car and grip. From our side there's a lot of work to be done, also to understand why we’re having a lot of problems. We need to work (on that), I don’t think it’s an easy fix overnight.”

Max P7 in first free practice in Japan

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6116/

Max Verstappen finished seventh in the first free practice session in Japan. At the challenging 5.807-kilometre Suzuka circuit, George Russell set the fastest time in his Mercedes, followed by team-mate Kimi Antonelli in P2. Lando Norris put his McLaren in P3, with Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc completing the top five. Max’s Oracle Red Bull Racing team-mate, Isack Hadjar, recorded the thirteenth time.

When the lights at the end of the pit lane turn green, it is Nico Hülkenberg who is first out on track. That is not immediately the case for team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto, who struggles to get his Audi moving. At Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso sits out the session, with reserve driver Jak Crawford taking his place for FP1. Tyre supplier Pirelli has brought the three hardest compounds this weekend, as Suzuka is particularly demanding on tyres.

After the first two Grands Prix, Formula 1 has now arrived in Japan for the next round of the 2026 championship. Max Verstappen is looking forward to the race: “The first two races have been a bit more challenging than we would have liked and it was unfortunate that we had to retire the car in China with an ERS cooling issue. There is still a lot to do, however, I have a lot of confidence in the team and they have reviewed these issues and have been working hard to optimise the performance of the car.”
