Laurent Mekies: 'There will be a great battle for the podium'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6225/

Laurent Mekies, CEO and team principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, reflects after Saturday’s qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix: “Max and Isack have been on the pace from the moment they went out on track yesterday and that allowed us to progress well throughout the weekend. Not everything is perfect with our package, but we are now talking about the final few tenths to ultimate pace, and the discussion is no longer about a bigger gap. That is a credit to everyone back at the factory and we will focus on reducing the gap even further."

“We knew coming here that we would have a penalty with Isack and that he would be starting from the back of the grid, so, from early in the weekend, the plan was to make the most out of this situation and to get Isack to also help Max throughout Qualifying with slip stream. He and the Team executed this to perfection and that has certainly helped getting Max on the front row. We have been a long way off the straight-line performance Mercedes has shown this weekend and the tow certainly helped reducing that gap."

Max qualifies second at Spa: 'Thank you to Isack'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6224/

Max Verstappen will start Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix from second place on the grid. The Dutchman put in a stellar lap to line up alongside pole sitter Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes). Oracle Red Bul Racing’s Isack Hadjar lend his teammate a hand by providing a vital tow on both Max’s runs as the Frenchman received a ten-place grid penalty prior to the weekend nullifying his chances of a good starting position.

“Isack did an amazing job in Q3 providing a tow in the final sector. That’s the reason I’m on the front row. It worked out well. It was close, but I trust him”, said Max after qualifying. “Tomorrow I’ll probably have to look in my mirrors, but today’s result was really good, despite lacking top speed. We’re not on the pace of Kimi, but the way we pulled today off as a team is great.”

Max added: “Tomorrow will be challenging; the tyres always struggle around here. I’ll drive my own race, and I’ll try to keep up.”

Dries van Langendonck: 'Verstappen Racing provides another layer of support'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6221/

On Thursday, it was announced that Dries van Langendonck will receive support and guidance from Max Verstappen and his management team under the Verstappen Racing banner. Talking to the 15-year-old Belgian talent currently leading the British Formula 4 championship, Dries shares his thoughts from Spa-Francorchamps:

“It was great to be with the McLaren Mastercard F1 Team in Spa. I was in the garage for FP1 and FP2, so I learned a lot listening into the radio, seeing how the team operated and overall enjoying the experience. It’s always special to be at a Formula 1 event, so I always want to make the most of the opportunity and take away as much as I can from it.”

How special is it to be at Spa as a Belgian driver? Dries answers: “It’s very special. Seeing all the fans and experiencing the support from the Belgian crowd is incredible. Spa is one of my favourite circuits and the atmosphere here is always amazing. Hopefully one day I’ll have the chance to race here myself.”

Pierre Wache after Friday at Spa: 'We made a good start'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6222/

Pierre Waché, Technical Director of Oracle Red Bull Racing, reflects on after Friday’s free practice sessions for the Belgian Grand Prix: “Overall, we made a good start today. Spa is quite a tricky circuit in terms of energy recovery and deployment. In FP1 and FP2 we were looking at multiple strategies to deal with that. It looks quite open at the moment. The balance is not perfect, and we saw some degradation on the long run, so we have some work to do tonight to prepare for Qualifying tomorrow. However, it’s a good starting point to improve upon.”

Max third after Friday practice at Spa: 'A good day'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6220/

Max Verstappen finished Friday practice for the Belgian Grand Prix in third place. Kimi Antonelli lapped the iconic Spa-Francorchamps quickest in his Mercedes. McLaren’s Lando Norris was second fastest.

“It’s been a good day, the car is in a good window”, the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver said. “The balance was there right away, but we still need to do some fine tuning. I’m not sure how much more pace we can find as you see the real gap in FP2.

The Dutchman added: “It’s a challenging track with the energy management as we’re slower on the straights compared to our competitors, but the balance is pretty good. We’ll just keep focussing on ourselves and hopefully we can close the gap in qualifying.”

Max from Spa on the rear wing, energy management and Dries: 'Potential'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6218/

Max Verstappen was invited by the FIA to attend the official Formula 1 press conference for the international media at Spa-Francorchamps. Afterwards, the four-time Formula 1 World Champion spoke to the Dutch media at the Red Bull Energy Station, home to the Oracle Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls teams.

Following the rear wing issues Max experienced at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, which both resulted in crashes, the team has reverted to the previous version of the RB22’s rear wing for this weekend in Belgium. Max explains: “I think it’s quite obvious why we’ve done that. The team is doing everything it can to solve those issues. As soon as the new one is ready, we’ll use it. After Silverstone I went home, took some time to relax and reset, and on Wednesday I was back at the Red Bull Racing factory to prepare for the upcoming Grands Prix. The work simply continues.”

With a solid strategy and strong race pace Max was a shoe-in for a podium spot at the British Grand Prix, but a crash in the closing phases of the race led to a premature race end for the Dutchman. For the second week in a row, it was a rear wing closing failure that sabotaged the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver’s race.
Laurent Mekies: 'More difficult on Max's side of the garage'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6213/

Laurent Mekies, CEO and team principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, reflects after Saturday’s sprint race and qualifying for the British Grand Prix: "To be honest, we have taken a step backwards compared to where we were in Austria and things have been difficult from the start of the weekend. We are still learning how to find the sweet spot with this car and that has proved to be more difficult here at Silverstone.”

“Today, we are a little bit further off pole than we were yesterday and this afternoon, it proved to be more difficult on Max’s side of the garage. We never managed to give him a car with which he could push the way he would have wanted, he was losing speed in a straight line and, in this situation, when it is so close between the top four teams, that is where you end up. Isack did a solid job, considering the limitations he also had with his car. Today, we seem to be the third best team, so let’s see how we can improve on that tomorrow."

Max to start British GP from P7: 'It just didn't work'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6212/

After Max Verstappen came across the line in sixth for this week's sprint race, the four-time world champion only managed to qualify for sixth place for the upcoming British Grand Prix. On the 5.891 meter long Silverstone circuit, it was Kimi Antonelli in his Mercedes who claimed pole, followed by Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in the Ferraris on P2 and P3. George Russell in the Mercedes and Max’s Red Bull Racing-teammate Isack Hadjar completed the top five.

“It just didn't work,” Max admits honestly after qualifying. “On one hand there’s just no balance in the car, but on the other hand we're slow on the straights. Somehow on my side of the garage we're slower everywhere. If you're slow on the straights, you use your battery more — you especially see that in the final sector. At some point you have no battery left and it all doesn't work anymore.''

When it comes to what this means for his future prospects, Max doesn’t hold back: “There's a problem within the engine that we can't find. That also leaves me a question mark for tomorrow with what we should do. Because this is pointless.”

Temperatures are lower and the wind is stronger, so it's presented us with new circumstances to deal with. Around a track like this, deployment is critical, so we have to learn from today and carry that into the weekend.
“P3-P7 was very close, so we could’ve ended lower, but we are on the right side of that group”, explained Max. “We’re not yet where we want to be.
Max added: “The car felt a bit better than in free practice. There is still some work to do, but that’s also to do with the limitations on them straights. We try to find the right balance. During the sprint I mainly expect the fight with the cars behind me.”

Local hero Lewis Hamilton was quickest around Silverstone with the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli in second. Hamilton’s Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc completed the top three.

The conditions for FP1 are perfect with an ambient temperature of 21 degrees and not a hint of rain, the Great British summer at its best. Hamilton is the first driver to take to the track. All drivers, bar Max, quickly follow suit. The fans have to wait a further five minutes before the Dutchman joins the party.

During the first quarter of the session, Oracle Red Bull Racing appear to have hit the ground running with Isack Hadjar and Max regularly topping the timing charts.

Max from Silverstone: 'We have made good progress'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6207/

The Formula 1 paddock heads to Silverstone this weekend for the British Grand Prix. Speaking during Thursday’s media session, Max Verstappen says he is happy with the progress Oracle Red Bull Racing has made in recent races. “We’ve made good progress, which is great to see. We had a positive weekend in Austria and we’re trying to keep improving from there. I know it’s going to be difficult because the competition is very strong, but we’re doing everything we can to become quicker. That’s how this whole season has been. One team brings a big upgrade and jumps ahead, then another team finds performance with an upgrade. The same thing can happen again with other teams. It also depends on the circuit layout. Some layouts work a bit better for us, but as a team you want to be rock solid. Nobody is, but that’s what we’re aiming for. We’re focused on our own package and trying to optimise it. Hopefully we can achieve more results like the one in Austria.”

Mekies after Max's second place in Austria: 'Strongest race so far'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6205/

Laurent Mekies, CEO and team principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, told after the Austrian Grand Prix: “Our best result of the year. We produced a very strong performance this afternoon, without a doubt our strongest race of the season so far. The most satisfying element is the pace: I think Kimi was quickest today and Max was maybe a little bit quicker than George, but then your grid position also has an impact.”

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6204/

After starting from P5, Max Verstappen finished second in a tense Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. In the closing stages of the exciting race, the fast Dutchman ran out of laps to challenge for the win against the Mercedes of George Russell.

On the other hand, the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver also had the charging Kimi Antonelli behind him at the end, with the Italian likewise running out of laps to mount a challenge for P2 or even the victory. In Spielberg, Max was named ‘Driver of the Day’ for the third time this season, the Formula 1 fan-voted award.

Mekies after Austrian GP qualifying: 'Apologise to Max'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6202/

Laurent Mekies, team principal and CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing, reflected on the Austrian Grand Prix qualifying and said: “The most important thing after this eventful qualifying session is that Max is okay. He delivered an excellent first run in Q3, and his final run was very fast until he lost the car in turn 9. The dynamic of the incident was quite unusual, and we lost aero performance on the rear of the car and it gave Max no chance to survive. As a team we take full responsibility for it and apologise to him.”

Mekies continued: “Not sending Max out for a second run in Q2 was certainly a close call, but we knew we had to take some risks after deciding to approach qualifying with only three new sets of softs to give ourselves more strategic options for the race.”

Max after getting P5 following crash in Austria qualifying: 'It's a shame'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6201/

Max Verstappen has qualified in fifth place for the Austrian Grand Prix. In an exceptionally close qualifying session, the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver was firmly in contention for pole position. However, on his final flying lap, the Dutchman lost control of his RB22 as he turned into turn 9, resulting in a heavy crash. Max stepped out of the car unharmed, and had to content himself with fifth place on tomorrow’s starting grid. George Russell took pole position for Mercedes. Charles Leclerc was close behind in P2, with his Ferrari-teammate Lewis Hamilton in P3.

After qualifying, Max commented on the heart-stopping moment when he lost control of the car: “On that same lap in turn 6 on the entry, I had a big moment. That was a bit weird because all weekend I haven’t had something like that. When I arrived to turn 9 and I turned in, the car was immediately gone, it was immediately full lock off. So that’s a bit odd. It’s a shame. I think realistically we could have ended up on P3.”

Red Bull Racing also came with an upgrade package to the Spielberg circuit. On whether the upgrade packet is pushing the car in the right direction: “We will have to see. On this track the laps are very short, so naturally a lot of people were close. There are still a few things to understand from the package — what worked well and some bits not so well, and we’ll work from there.”

Jos Verstappen and his copilot Renaud Jamoul are out of the Ypres Valley. The Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, prepared by Sarrazin Motorsport, met its Waterloo in the fifteenth stage.

The Verstappen Racing crew had started the Saturday part of the Rally in eighth place after a difficult day on Friday. Saturday’s leg start with the ninth special stage, Watou. For the first loop (five stages) tyres cannot be changed, and with rain pelting down, the choice of tyres will be critical. Championship leader Hayden Paddon immediately discovers the consequences of making the wrong choice when he ends up in a ditch, losing more than a minute to Stéphane Lefebvre, who started the stage on wet-weather tyres.

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6198/

Jos Verstappen has finished the opening day of the Ypres Rally, a round of the Belgian Rally Championship (BRC), in eighth place overall. Together with co-driver Renaud Jamoul, he was still able to take part in the event despite crashing his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 during Thursday’s qualifying stage. The damage was too extensive to be repaired on-site, leaving their participation in doubt for much of the day. However, a replacement Skoda was prepared at the last minute and, after being approved by the organisers before the start of the rally, Jos and Renaud were able to take their place on the starting list.

Starting 33rd on the road due to not setting a qualifying time on Thursday, Jos posts the nineteenth-fastest time on the opening special stage, Kemmelberg, after a small mistake along the way. On stage two, Zwarte Berg, he improves to tenth, and on the third stage, Reninge, he sets the ninth-fastest time. After three stages, Jos and Renaud have climbed to fourteenth overall.

We were trying to understand the car and the new package and we modified a few things on the set up in FP2: some were in the right direction and some were not. We obviously have some work to do, which is the case when you change a few things on the car. There is a lot to learn but we hope we have a good path to Qualifying."

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6194/

On a warm Thursday at the Red Bull Ring, Max Verstappen addressed the international media on a weekend in which the Dutchman’s RB22 will sport a host of updates. “This weekend is important for us. We want to keep improving. We know we lack pace and we are trying to improve. That’s what we all want, and we continue to work hard. Our starts haven’t been great either so we are working on that as well.

The Oracle Red Bull Racing driver added: “We already made improvements, but those were the ‘easier’ steps. The last few tenths, the ones you need to fight for the win, are the hardest. The team is always flat out, but other teams also bring upgrades. But we’ll try to keep closing the gap, hopefully we can starting this weekend.

Max Verstappen is looking forward to the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. The Dutch Oracle Red Bull Racing driver says: “Austria is of course a home Grand Prix for the team. It’s been a great track for me in the past and we have had really good memories there. It’s a very interesting track and all of the corners are quite different, so it’s really important to get a good balance out of the car. You need both the high speed and low speed performance, good traction and now, with how energy sensitive some tracks are, it is important to work to get on top of this.”

Laurent Mekies, CEO and Team Principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after the race in Barcelona: "The race produced an accurate picture of where we are with our current package on this sort of track. Coming into the weekend, we knew that a power and high speed corners circuit like Barcelona would present a slightly more complicated challenge than other types of circuit. What we saw today mirrored the situation in qualifying, in that we could fight with the other top teams but we did not have the pace to challenge for the win today. To do that, we still need to find between four and five tenths."

Verstappen P4 in Spain as Hamilton takes maiden Ferrari victory: 'A lonely race'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6191/

Max Verstappen finished fourth in the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona. The opening phase of the race was relatively calm, with little movement at the front, but as the race progressed the tension steadily increased. A fight for the podium positions, varying strategies, a virtual safety car, and retirements for Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc all combined to produce a dramatic closing stage. Lewis Hamilton ultimately came out on top, claiming his first victory for Ferrari. George Russell finished second, while Lando Norris completed an all-British podium. Verstappen extracted the maximum from his race to finish P4, ahead of Oscar Piastri in fifth.

“For me it was actually quite a lonely race and just too slow,” Verstappen said after the race. “Every stint you just lose a bit of time on every tyre. None of them really worked, at least for us. But I think that is also just because we are a bit too slow on all compounds.”

In the closing stages Verstappen was still setting competitive lap times on the medium tyre, but according to the four-time world champion it did not feel any better. “That was mainly because I pitted a bit later and therefore had a few laps of advantage. But towards the end it did not really go. In reality it was just the same as in all the stints.”

Verstappen also watched Lewis Hamilton take his first win for Ferrari. The Dutchman had praise for the seven-time world champion: “It is a nice moment. From what I could see he was incredibly quick today. Your first win with a new team is always very special, even if you have already won so much.”

He also reacted to the news that Nyck de Vries had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “I had not seen it yet, because I only look at my phone once I am back in my room. But that is obviously really great. I am happy about that.” He also looked ahead to the evening, when the Netherlands face Japan in football: “I hope they win, that is the most important thing.”

Jos Verstappen takes victory at Rally of Wervik: 'Happy with this'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6190/

Jos Verstappen and his co-driver Renaud Jamoul took victory at the Rally of Wervik in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 car prepared by Sarrazin Motorsport. The Verstappen Racing pairing recorded the fastest time on six of the twelve special stages.

“It was a shame about the puncture and flat tyre, as things were going reasonably well,” Verstappen said in the morning, following their first stint. “We’re testing a few things and hope to continue on at the same pace.”

The pair were able to keep a good thing going in the following stints and outcompete the rest of the field. After crossing the finish line, a pleased Verstappen chimed in: “We are very satisfied with this win. We managed to improve the car throughout the day, it feels good. We’re happy with this."

The Rally of Wervik served not only as preparation for the Ypres Rally in two weeks' time, but also as Jamoul's first time stepping back in the car for a competitive session since suffering an ankle fracture.

Mekies after qualifying in Barcelona: 'The hard work is paying off'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6189/

Laurent Mekies, CEO and team principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after the qualifying in Barcelona: "As a team, we are never going to be happy with P5 and P6. But, it’s fair to say we expected a bit of a reality check here in Barcelona because of the nature of the track, with its long straight and high speed corners. We know we are a bit weaker on this type of layout, certainly when compared to Monaco. Throughout all three practice sessions, we worked very hard to try and put the car in a better place. In fact, the gap to Pole, three and a half tenths, is probably the smallest we have seen so far this season on this type of track."

Monaghan after Friday in Barcelona: 'We aren't miles off'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6186/

Paul Monaghan, chief engineering, car engineering of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after Friday’s practice sessions in Barcelona: “We aren’t miles off, in fact everyone seems to be experiencing similar issues and it is now our job to fix them to try and improve. This is another high-speed challenging track with four fast corners and we have to work on how best to navigate these. We will also look into how we can perhaps better manage the tyres and optimise our performance. We have made a lot of progress, but other teams are not standing still, so it looks from today, like we are not quite close enough yet. We have to get the best out of our car and work on how best to operate. Ultimately, we just need to focus on ourselves, get an understanding of what the car requires and then see where we end up.”

Max fourth in Barcelona FP1

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6184/

Max Verstappen clocked the fourth fastest time in the opening practice session of the Barcelona Grand Prix. George Russell (Mercedes) was quickest in a session which saw several test drivers and rookies take to the track. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was second fastest, ahead of third placed Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).

In FP1, seven test drivers made an appearance. Ayumu Iwasa drove Isack Hadjar’s Oracle Red Bull Racing alongside Leonardo Fornaroli (McLaren), Paul Aron (Audi), Dino Beganovic Ferrari), Colton Herta (Cadillac), Fred Vesti (Mercedes) and Luke Browning (Williams). Unfortunately for Browning, his appearance remained limited to being a spectator in the cockpit with Williams unable to get the car ready due to technical issues.

The first half of the sessions sees most drivers head out on the hard and medium Pirelli tyres. Max starts on the latter but is not too pleased with the handling of the Red Bull. “I have understeer in one corner, but oversteer in the next. I’ve got everything, it’s horrible.” Nevertheless, the 4-time champ remains in the top six throughout practice.

Max from Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya: 'First real test of strength'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6183/

A week after the disappointing Monaco Grand Prix, it is already time for the Barcelona Grand Prix. At the circuit where Max Verstappen claimed his first victory 10 years ago, he now looks ahead to the second European race of the season.

“That first Grand Prix victory feels like a long time ago,” said the 28-year-old Verstappen. “I always enjoy being here. Barcelona is one of my favourite cities and it is also a great track as well. I hope we have a good weekend. It looks as though it will be nice and warm. Monaco did not end the way we wanted, but life goes on.”

The FIA has amended the regulations for 2027 and 2028, giving the internal combustion engine a larger share of the total power produced by the power units. Max commented: “It was good to see that changes are being made. Not only for this year, but also for next year. Of course, I had hoped we would move to V8 engines next year, but I also understand that there are politics involved. In any case, changes are being made, and that is a good thing.”

Max previews Barcelona GP: 'Unfinished business'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6182/

Max Verstappen’s car halted at the start of the Monaco Grand Prix due to technical issues. The Dutch Oracle Red Bull Racing driver said, previewing the Barcelona Grand Prix: “It wasn’t the result we wanted from Monaco and was a big disappointment for the team as everything had gone so well over the weekend, so I feel like there is unfinished business. Barcelona is a completely different circuit, with the high-speed turns, long corners and the long straight and it will be a good test and interesting to see if we have made a good step forward.”

Mekies after Monaco Grand Prix: 'We can only apology to Max'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6181/

Laurent Mekies, CEO and team principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after the Monaco Grand Prix: “Mixed emotions today, as Isack and the team did a great job to get him to the podium, overcoming some technical issues on the car, but on the other side of the garage, we lost Max’s car straightaway with an engine issue.”

Antonelli wins in Monaco as Max drops out at the start: 'Disappointing'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6180/

Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) won a flawless and unthreatened victory from pole at the Monaco Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) finished second ahead of Isack Hadjar (Oracle Red Bull Racing), who was a surprise podium-finisher in a race that saw seven DNF’s, two safety car moments and was even brought to a brief still stand.

“The formation lap already felt a bit odd,” Max explained after he exited the car. “After that, the pre-start was truly terrible; there was just absolutely no consistency. As soon as I dropped the clutch that was it. The engine broke down completely. After that the noise that I heard from the engine once I got some power back out of turn 1 was very bad. I couldn't go full throttle, we brought the car in, and that was it.”

“I had no power, so I was steering left purely with the friction of the wheels, and just praying everyone would go right. Luckily everyone reacted very well.”

“We had a really good weekend up until the race. Of course everyone is really disappointed not to be on the podium,” Max says in summary. “We need to make sure that we finish races, and then we need to understand what went wrong today.”

Mekies after qualifying Monaco: 'Always the belief that we can win'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6179/

Laurent Mekies, CEO and team principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after the qualifying in Monaco: “This is a great result for the team and a clear step forward in terms of performance, if you look at where we were two or three races ago. We can be very proud of the job done by everyone back in Milton Keynes and at the race track. Of course, we can never be completely happy, missing pole by four hundredths, especially in Monaco but it’s a great result for the team with a few fantastic laps from Max to get us to the front row, and with Isack in P5.”

Max surprises with front row start in Monaco: 'I would have taken it'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6178/

Max Verstappen has qualified second for the Monaco Grand Prix after a tense qualifying session. The Dutchman was on course for pole position in the closing stages, but Kimi Antonelli managed to go fastest on his very last lap, taking the first place on the starting grid. Lewis Hamilton qualifies third, while Charles Leclerc, after a mistake on his final attempt, has to settle for fourth, ahead of Isack Hadjar.

“If you would have told me yesterday that we would be on the front row, I would have taken it,” Max says afterwards. “I went into qualifying thinking: maybe top five. So when you’re fighting for pole, that just feels really good.” The Dutchman was surprised by Red Bull’s pace. “I didn’t expect it to be that much better compared to the rest. I just didn’t expect to be in the fight for pole.”

Thanks to his strong final lap, Max secures a place on the front row. The Dutchman now turns his focus to Sunday. “We need a bit of luck of course. You can’t overtake here, but you never know,” he reflects. Asked whether he was disappointed with the tiny gap to polesitter Kimi Antonelli, Verstappen remains calm: “I didn’t make any mistakes on my lap, so I don’t think you can be too negative about it.”

Looking back on the session, Max also reflects on the feeling of the current generation of Formula 1 cars around a circuit like Monaco. “They are more on edge than the last few years. Even with the power delivery, drivability and shifting, it’s all a bit different. Once you get on top of it and you get a clean lap out of it, especially in qualifying where you’re flat out on the limit, it’s very rewarding when it goes well.”

Monaghan after Friday in Monaco: 'Try to finish on the front row'

https://news.verstappen.com/en/article/6176/

Paul Monaghan, chief engineering, car engineering of Oracle Red Bull Racing, said after Friday’s practice sessions in Monaco: “We felt pretty encouraged by our performance today. I don’t think we can say that where we ended up in FP2 means that we will finish in P1: we will need to work hard tonight and drivers will, of course need to perform at their best tomorrow. We will work on some improvements on the car that should hopefully make things a little better, but other teams will also be working hard too, so let’s see what happens.”
