Michael Schumacher back on topJos 17th

Published on 28 April 2001 by Thorsten Hendriks

Michael Schumacher will start tomorrow's Spanish GP from pole position. But only just, Mika Hakkinen closed in on him but got stuck on 0.085 seconds from the German's time. The second row will be occupied by David Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello.
Jos started his qualifying session very well by establishing the first competitive time. Everytime Jos went for another run he improved this time until he spun off track. This was caused by a problem with the brakes, which bothered him this morning too. Jos was able to return to the pitbox where the mechanics checked and bled the brakes, which seemed to have solved the problem. With just a few minutes to go Jos made another attempt to improve his grid position but did not manage that. 'I think when I spun off track the ground plate was damaged which influenced the aerodynamics of the car.'
This morning the OrangeArrows team were very busy making improvements on Jos's A22. They tried various setups and even changed bargeboards to find aerodynamic benefit. 'The team is working very had but we are not able to show results yet. Changes we make and new parts have to get used to and integrated in the car setup. We are 16th and 17th now but eventually we will benefit from all this hard work."
