Understeer gone due to nose wing

Published on 24 May 2001 by Ivo Kleintjes

Jos is satisfied with the odd looking structure on his car. OrangeArrows is using a little hole in the regulations in the ever lasting search for more downforce. Downforce is very important in the Formula 1, but in Monaco you need all the downforce you can find. As Tom Walkinshaw commented: "We need everything we can find to put on the car to make cornering faster, including the kitchen sink."

The new wing is mounted on the nose

The height of the nose wing is quite remarkable

According to Jos is the nose wing a wonderfull asset: "Especially the difference when driving with new tyres is remarkable. The understeer is completely gone." Why was it that you made your fastest run without the wing? "My last run was meant to drive a fast lap but Ralf put his car in the crash barrier and that meant I could not finish my run. We worked on the race setup today and I hope we will end up on 12th and 13th position. You know what it is like here: you will have to have a good run, but when there is someone in front of you, your chances to get a good time are gone."
