FIA declares Arrows and Jordan wings illegal

Published on 25 May 2001 by Verstappen Info Page

Both the Arrows and Jordan team received a warning of the FIA to remove the wings off their cars. If this warning is ignored the team will be excluded from Sunday's race. This warning refers to item 2.3 of the technical regulations 2001, which states that officials can exclude car with dangerous structures. Arrows appealed to this decision but it is not known if this will influence FIA's judgement.
Arrows and Jordan drew a lot of attention with their extra wings. This idea was created in their search for more downforce. Jos's structure looked like a spoiler and Trulli's was more like a wing, just in front of the cockpit. On Jos's car the spoiler was mounted on the front of the nose cone. Jos Verstappen and Jarno Trulli drove a great number of laps for respectively Arrows and Jordan with these new but very conspicuous structures.
