Schumacher wins, Jos retires

Michael Schumacher has won the European Grand Prix on the Nurburgring. The German finished before Juan Pablo Montoya and David Coulthard. Jos had to retire in the late stages of the race with an engine failure. He was 13th at that point.
It was a difficult race for Jos: "Right before the start we decided to use the T-car, because that one felt better than my own car. It was of not much use. We are lacking grip, so we could not drive on the edge. The start went well, I overtook 5 cars but that was all I could do. Six laps before the end of the race the engine failed. Let's hope lady luck will be on our side next week."

The race was quite boring. Michael Schumacher took the lead from start and did not give it up. His brother Ralf was able to follow him quite well, but a 10 seconds penalty put him back into the middle of the field. He received a stop-and-go penalty for driving over the white line at the exit of the pitlane. This took away the pressure on Michael although Montoya was able to match the pace, he would not get closer to the Ferrari. Coulthard gained from Ralf's penalty and finished third, just before Ralf Schumacher.
