Irvine puts Jaguar on top, Jos in eightteenth place

Published on 27 July 2001 by John ter Meer

After the first session thrown away, Jos manages to drive twenty laps in the second practice session, which eventually puts him in eightteenth place with a fastest lap of 1:44.143.

Eddie Irvine is the quickest driver of the day: 1:41.424. Montoya ends up second, so it’s a good day for Michelin, with Jaguar on top and Williams BMW second. But with a track temperature of 42 degrees Celcius, nobody is really surprised.

We had a quick chat with Jos, just after the second session. He was obviously fed up with the first session. "It’s very annoying having a full hour wasted. Enrique had in the second session engine problems too, so we have wasted a complete session with both our cars. We weren’t present at Monza either, a circuit to collect valuable data, especially for the brakes and the fast straight parts of the circuit. Then you know you will have a very hard time here at Hockenheim. Fortunately we managed to collect enough information about the right choice for the compounds and the brakes. We drove our laps with a lot of fuel, just to see how the brakes were doing. I’ll hope I can bring you more positive news tomorrow.”
