Mika Hakkinen was faster than Michael Schumacher in today's second free practice. Barrichello was third and Frentzen was still in the top ten with a seventh time.

The temperature was climbing steadily but Jos had an electronic problem and was unable to drive many laps. In the last few minutes he managed to get on track and if his engine would not have cut out he would timed a 1.14.9. "Tomorrow is another day" that is the only comment Jos made.
