Jos not dissatisfied

Published on 07 March 2003 by Huub Rothengatter

We just spoke with Jos Verstappen who looked back at the happening of his first test, practice and qualification day in Melbourne. "We have learnt a lot today" Jos comments and told us that it was very difficult to say how Minardi would compare with the other teams. He only commented on his experiences with his car. "Topspeed is fine, we are looking for more grip. We have to work on the setup and try to find something that will let us go faster."

Jos indicated that especially the tyres will play an important role. "Other teams have tested a lot. The tyre suppliers have plenty of data about those cars. If you know the car inside out you can develop a special tyre. The other teams have, seen their test miles, a head start concerning the tyres. Other teams have determined which direction to go with the tyre choice and specification."

Jos in action

Jos is not dissatisfied at all. "Why should we be? The practice session went perfect, the engine works well, giving us a good top speed. It can only get better, we are collecting more data which will enable us to better the car. The gap between us and the rest won't be easy to close during this weekend, but there will be progress. The forecast for tomorrow is rain, so some surprises will appear."
