Jos's comments about the race

Published on 09 March 2003 by Huub Rothengatter

A satisfied Jos Verstappen phoned us after the race from Australia to tell us his personal race report. "My car was leaking oil that was the reason why I started with the T-car. The T-car had Justin's setup, so the team had their hands full changing it. I managed to start from the pitlane right behind the rest of the drivers."

"The thinker" by Jos Verstappen

The Minardi team opted for a one stop strategy so Jos's car had a full load of fuel. "The setup was aimed for rain, only on the very last moment we changed to dry weather tyres instead of wet."
Dat bleek met een snel opdrogende baan geen verkeerde keuze geweest te zijn!

The Minardi PS03 on its way to its first finish

After the pitstop it appeared that the new tyres were not as good as the ones with which Jos started the race. "In the second part I felt the car sliding. My aim was to bring the car home so the last part of the race I took it easy."

You can see that Jos is very happy with today's result. Minardi was the only team who brought a Cosworth/Ford engine to the finish. "The car is very reliable. I did not have any problems keeping Pizzonia in his Jaguar behind me, so our speed is up to scratch. We gathered a lot of valuable data which we will use to our advantage in the next races." according to Jos.
