Jos: "it's the best I could do"

Published on 22 March 2003 by Huub Rothengatter

The tarmac in Sepang is almost 50 degrees Celsius when Jos placed himself on 18th in the qualifying session for the Malaysian Grand Prix. "That's all I could get out of the car" Jos explains. "The rear end of my PS03 had difficulties sticking to the track. The problem is grip, or better the lack of it." The problem was to blame on the tyres. Looking back Jos regrets his choosing the tyres which he used in Friday's warmup.

"We decided to use the same tyres as in Friday's warmup in an attempt to use the same set up and improbe it. Looking back I think it would have been better if we had used new tyres. In the qualification session we have used new tyres. Our tactics? We could go for a 3 stop strategy, we still have 3 new set of tyres."

Better than 18th was not possible

Hypothetical plan: start light on fuel, 3 stops, 3 sets of new tyres, not a lot of grip, but with the current reliability wich is okay it might work. Finish the race and hoping for a lot of retirements......and rain.
