Michael on pole

Published on 17 May 2003 by Huub Rothengatter

Michael Schumacher is the one on pole tomorrow. He managed to keep Kimi Raikkonen behind him with a difference of 0.039 seconds. Juan Pablo Montoya was able to aim for Kimi's time but didn't manage to be faster. The Columbian was satisfied about his performance seen the amount of fuel he had on board.

Schumacher on pole again

On fifth we find Nick Heidfeld, one of the surprises of today. His team mate Frentzen positioned himself on a disappointing 15th spot, but he was on a different strategy.
Antonio Pizzonia saw his practice efforts rewarded with an excellent 8th position. His team mate Mark Webber, who outclassed him in previous Grand Prix, had a troublesome lap and ended up on 16th. He went off track due to the dust Villeneuve put on the track when he went off.
Villeneuve literally bit the dust and has to allow his team mate Button 5 positions in front of him.
Although everyone is on different strategies we can assume that Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard did not have a good day today.
Two drivers did not succeed in setting a qualifying time. Fernando Alonso could not keep his car on the track and had a trip through the gravel. Jos Verstappen had a good case of bad luck, after the first corner he lost his fifth gear and had to abandon his lap. Later we will post Jos's comments.
