Ralf Schumacher on pole; Michelin rules in Monaco

Published on 31 May 2003 by Huub Rothengatter

Not Michael but his brother Ralf grabbed pole position for tomorrow's Grand Prix of Monaco. Kimi set the 2nd fastest time. Montoya and Trulli are right behind them on second row. On the third row the first Ferrari can be seen (5th position, Schumacher), the other one got stuck on 7th place. Ferrari is the only team on Bridgestone tyres in the top ten, quite clearly it is Michelin who rules today.

The battle between the two Minardi's goes to Jos Verstappen, who drives a faultless lap. The Faenza based team has some little hope to keep Toyota behind them but Panis and Da Matta are driving with little fuel, clearly a different pitstop strategy. Jos is carrying a lot of fuel during his flying lap; he will go for a one stop strategy.
