Jos delighted with qualifying result

Published on 14 June 2003 by Huub Rothengatter

We just spoke to a very pleased Jos Verstappen who called us from Canada. "The whole team is very proud of me in achieving this result, so am I." Jos tells us while he shouts to be heard over the euphoric yells behind him in the pitbox.

"Today was like yesterday; not very easy. Due to the changing weather conditions we tested different setups. Justin had a wet setting and mine was an intermediate. Justin's was at that moment the right one that is why he was faster. For qualifying Justin switched to my setting, because the track was getting dryer. We both had the same amount of fuen onboard. I was able to drive a lap without making any errors which resulted in a good lap time."
Jos emphasised that it was clearly the circumsances who have helped Minardi today in Montreal. "It is obvious that the teams who had their two hour testing on Friday on a dry track did have an advantage."

Paul Stoddart is in seventh heaven, especially with this result and the political game which is played at the moment. "God does exist" people heard him say when Kimi Raikkonen spun off track during his flying lap.
