Jos fastest in prequalification

Published on 04 July 2003 by Huub Rothengatter

The prequalifiying session was influenced by rain and Jos Verstappen just set fastest time. Second was Justin Wilson.

The sector times which led to Jos' first position

The session started at 2pm with Michael Schumacher on a wet track, the first few drivers actually still had some rain. The further we went into the session the weather changed and the track got faster. Mainly Webber, Heidfeld and Firman had great advantage of these improved circumstances. Jos was before last and was 2.6 seconds faster than Firman, who made a few errors in his flying lap. Jos had a perfect lap and was very fat, Justin Wilson couldn't match the time and got stuck on 0.151 behind Jos.

Tomorrow we will have the qualification which will determine the starting grid. The Minardi's won't be first out, but last during the qualifying session. Very good position to get a reasonable grid position. Maybe it will rain at the start of the qualification, which could lead to another surprise.
