Rothengatter: "It's money that matters"

Published on 16 November 2004 by Huub Rothengatter

The times that Jos Verstappen was hired for his talent and hte persistence of his manager Huub Rothengatter seem to have finished. Well this is Huub Rothengatter's opninion when we ask him if Jos is returning to F1. "We are completely dependent on sponsoring, very different than before."

When we ask him if he can tell us anything for next season he sighs and tells us: "I understand that the fans would like to have some knowledge on this subject. Regrettably I have to reply with the "we are working on it". Nothing new for the site or the fans." Trying to dig deeper doesn't work as Rothengatter is very careful; "I won't say to much to avoid disappointment. Why? Just the normal 'politics'."

Though, and even Huub Rothengatter can't deny that, they are very busy. We would like to know if the contacts in F1 are still there and active. "Of course do we still have contact with people in F1. There's no point talking to teams if you don't have the appropriate backing, it's money that matters."

Despite that money is the most important factor in obtaining a seat Rothengatter is still very positive. He can't tell us the exact what and when: "we are very busy and of course we have our contacts from the past. There are some possibilities, taht's for sure."

Despite all the trust in a return to F1, are there other racing classes you are looking at? Like DTM or the American Champcars. Rothengatter replies that he is not saying anything; "you have to keep your options open. It is too early to tell, this goes for F1 as well as other racing classes. I wish I could be more to the point, but that is not possible. The fans will have to have patience and all the silence doesn't mean were not doing anything. We are always working and trying to get Jos back into racing."
