A1 Grand Prix Indonesia postponed until 12 February

On Tuesday 3 January Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai and uncle of A1GP president and founder Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, unexpectedly passed away. Out of respect the A1GP organisation has now decided to cancel the 7th race which was due to be held on the Sentul Circuit, Indonesia on 15th January.

Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum was crowned in 1990 and became vice president of the United Arab Emirates. He was involved in many of Dubai's magnificent infractructural projects like the new Dubai Airport, electricity supply to many schools and suburbs. He sponsored many charity project both national and international.

Tony Texeira, A1GP Managing Director: "all of us; staff, team owners and all partners of A1 Grand Prix mourn about the loss of a great visionair and gifted ruler of Dubai, His Royal Highness Sheikh Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Although it was a logistic dilemma, we thought it was appropriate and important that we would respect the period of mourning which this family member of our founder, president and chairman. Our condolances and thoughts are with all inhabitants of Dubai."
