Max leaves everybody trailing during Barcelona test

Published on 13 November 2013 by Niels Hendrix

In the build up to his first season in single seater racing, another Formula Renault 2.0 test was lined up for Max Verstappen. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya provided the backdrop for day one of Max' two day test for the Tech 1 Racing team. He successfully completed a test for the French outfit, when he obliterated the lap record at the Hungaroring near Budapest, a few weeks ago.

After being invited back to the team to showcase his talent once again, the young Dutchman took to circuit in the morning session. The good track and weather conditions were matched by Max' pace, resulting in the fastest time of all before lunch.

Final instructions from his engineer before Max is unleashed onto the track

A fresh set of rubber for Max

In the afternoon, Verstappen junior continued his incredible form, by regaining and keeping the top spot on the leader boards. The two sets of tires allocated to Max were therefore used to their full potential: "I clocked a 1:43.4s, that's 1.2s faster than my previous test here in Barcelona."
After more than 60 laps, the karting world champion climbed out of the cockpit: "It was a really good session and we were fastest during the whole day." The lap times and performance of the car gave the rookie plenty of confidence for the second day of testing: "I'm delighted with the car and it's great to be fastest of more than fifteen other drivers, as some of them are championship contenders for next year."
