Double pole ahead of Norisring race 2 and 3
Published on 28 June 2014 by Stefan Meens
After winning the first race of the Norisring Euro F3 round on Saturday morning, Max Verstappen once again set the benchmark on the streets of Nuremberg in the afternoon. In a convincing manner the Van Amersfoort Racing driver claimed pole position for race 2 and 3 of round six of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
Similar to the second qualifying session at Spa-Francorchamps last week, rain is in the air when the session kicks off. As the track is not damp enough for wet weather compounds, the entire fields leaves the pits on slicks.
Esteban Ocon, Tom Blomqvist and Max are the pace setters in the first half of qualifying with the Dutchman sitting at the top spot. He will remain there as the track becomes too damp to improve the lap times.
Max: “It went incredibly well. To claim both poles with two flying laps is an amazing feeling.”
The remaining ten minutes are used by several drivers to get a feel for the car with wet weather tyres. Max also heads out and is fastest of all drivers out on rain rubber.
“In the dry as well as in the rain, the car feels really good. And if the weather forecast is accurate, we might need the rain compounds tomorrow”, explains a confident Max.
Verstappen junior will share the front row ahead of race 1 with championship leader Ocon and Blomqvist. Ahead of the second race, the front grid slots are occupied by Max on pole, Blomqvist second and Rosenqvist completes the top three.
