Mechanical issue prevents Max from finishing race 2

Max Verstappen failed to finish the second race of seventh round of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship due to a mechanical issue. After eleven laps into the race on the Moscow Raceway, the 16-year-old Dutchman had to retire his Van Amersfoort Racing car following a broken dynamo. Meanwhile, championship leader Ocon went on to win the race and claim his second victory of the weekend.

As the race gets underway, the front rows of the grid all have a solid start. After the first lap, the running order is similar to the grid positions with Ocon leading the race ahead of Antonio Fuoco, Tom Blomqvist and Max.

The race remains in a status quo until lap 12. Suddenly, Max drops down the order and has to park his car in the pits. The team are quickly able to spot the problem: a broken dynamo. Despite the rapid diagnoses, Max is out of contention.
 “After a couple of corners into the race, I noticed the downshifts felt more sluggish. As I wasn’t able to go down the gears quickly enough, I locked up my front inner wheel a couple of times and failed to make the corner. Eventually I lost power and that was the end of it”, explains a heavily disappointed Max.

In the end, it is Ocon who takes his second consecutive win of the weekend ahead of Fuoco and Blomqvist. The result means Ocon extends his championship lead over second placed Max by 109 points.

“We are throwing away valuable points so we aren’t in control anymore. Ocon is leading by over a 100 points so it’s going to be difficult to beat him in the standings. Nevertheless I’m focusing on the third and last race so let’s hope we can fix the car. Normally a broken dynamo should be easily replaced”, concludes Max.
