Max set for FR 3.5 Red Bull Ring test

Published on 24 September 2014 by Stefan Meens

Max Verstappen has travelled to Spielberg, Austria, to prepare for his second Formula Renault 3.5 outing. On Wednesday, the Red Bull Ring features the backdrop for the test that is part of Verstappen junior's preparation ahead of his rookie Formula 1 season.

It is not the first time Max hits the Red Bull Ring in a FR3.5 car. Shortly after Verstappen junior became the latest edition to the Red Bull Junior Team, he absolved thirty laps on the rain-swept track. However, Wednesday's test should see the clouds exchanged for sunshine. Max: “Luckily it will stay dry which makes things easier. Compared to a wet track I'll be able to generate higher corner speeds and really experience how a Formula Renault 3.5 racer reacts.”

As reported, the plan is for Max to participate in free practice 1 of the Japanese Grand Prix on Friday 3 October. However, in order to do so, the youngster needs to be granted a superlicense by the FIA. In anticipation, Max prepares by testing the Formula Renault 3.5 racer as its acceleration and braking performance are the closest thing to rivalling a Formula 1 car. Furthermore, driving the FR 3.5 will provide an excellent physical training as the cars are more demanding to drive than Formula 3 racers.

The Dutchman is looking forward to his next outing on the Austrian track. “The main goal of this test is to clock as many miles as possible. Lots of track time in a faster car is the best way to train and prepare”, concludes a motivated Max.
