Max feeling at ease at Scuderia Toro Rosso

Published on 08 November 2014 by Stefan Meens

Max Verstappen showed both his talent and raw speed at Interlagos. In free practice 1 for the Brazilian Grand Prix, the 17-year-old Red Bull Junior set a lap time which initially split the Mercedes duo, before he eventually finished the session in an excellent sixth place. The result confirms the Dutchman is more and more at ease in the STR9 and working with his new team.

Max: “Every time I get in the car I feel more comfortable, lap by lap I get a better understanding of its behavior. We have made a few changes from Austin to here, for example in the steering, which I now feel is more to my liking. This meant I could try and find the limit a bit more than in the past weekends.”

A crucial factor to extract the most performance out the car and driver, is the relationship between the team and the driver. So far, it has all been positive, according to Max. “I’m quite satisfied with my job and I like working with this team very much. We are starting to know each other better and they understand better what I want from the car, my driving style, and the set up becomes easier. I think I had a good practice session and it’s great to see that both our cars were very competitive.”
