Published on 01 December 2014 by Stefan Meens

Max Verstappen pulled off some incredible overtaking manoeuvres over the last few years and in his début season in car racing, he continued to show his racing instinct. The Dutchman's spectacular moves have not gone unnoticed and for his overtake on Antonio Giovinazzi at Imola, he is nominated for the FIA's 'Action of the Year' award.

Motor sport fans have the unique opportunity to vote for the prize on the FIA website, http://www.fia.com/action-of-the-year, where videos of the eleven overtakes nominated are uploaded. Whoever votes, will automatically enter a draw with two tickets to the British Grand Prix, including flights and accommodation as the prize. Voters have to possibility to vote multiple times, as well as to vote for the same video. Visitors are able to cast their vote until December 4.

Max' overtake on Antonio Giovinazzi in race 2 at Imola, earned the Dutchman his nomination. After starting from eleventh on the grid, the Van Amersfoort Racing driver had moved up the order into third, chasing down Giovinazzi. In the closing stages of the race, the Italian is under huge pressure from Max who has closed the gap by putting in a couple of fastest laps. In a thrilling duel, Max manages to pass Giovinazzi on the final run to the start/finish line clinching second place with the smallest of margins, 0.019s.

“Antonio defended very well on the run down to Tamburello and it was difficult to keep up with him in the middle sector. However, in the final corner he went a bit wide. He hit a bit of grass, resulting in wheel spin. It looked like he took his foot of the throttle because he thought the race was over but I just kept my foot down giving me P2. A great result.”

The winner of the award will be announced on Friday the fifth of December at the Anual FIA Prize-Giving ceremony in Doha, Qatar. At the gathering, all the champions of this year's FIA championships will be honoured. Among the awards presented are 'Personality of the Year', 'Rookie of the Year' and the 'Pole Position Trophy', all of which are chosen by a panel.
