Jerez day 1: Vettel quickest, Sainz completes 46 laps

Published on 01 February 2015 by Stefan Meens

Sebastian Vettel topped the time sheets after the first day of testing in Jerez on Sunday. The former Red Bull Racing ace lapped the Spanish circuit 60 times with his fastest lap one-and-a-half quicker then runner-up Marcus Ericsson in the Ferrari powered Sauber. Mercedes looked once again strong with Nico Rosberg ending day one in third and completing and impressive 157 laps.

For Scuderia Toro Rosso, Carlos Sainz drove the new STR10. The Spanish team mate of Max Verstappen managed 46 laps. His day ended prematurely after he was forced to park his car in the middle sector of the track, with an hour of the session remaining.

On Monday the testing continues at Jerez. One of the drivers set to take to the Spanish tarmac is Max. Like his team mate, the 17-year-old will head out in the STR10, marking the official start to the Dutchman's maiden F1 season.
