Published on 10 December 1996 by Verstappen Info Page

Stewart Grand Prix is the first F1 team to unveil its 1997 Formula 1 car. The Stewart Ford SF1, white with patches of the Stewart Tartan, was presented by teamchief Paul Stewart and father Jackie Stewart at a crowded press conference in London today. Stewart als announced new sponsors and now has a total budget of 15 million pounds of which 6 million is spent on setting up the new team. The car appeared conventional except for a single attachment point for the lower front suspension. Ford has aided in development not only by supplying an engine but also by developing aerodynamics, electronics and the chassis.

This year the car will be tested shortly in Britain. Early in 1997 testing will start on circuits in Southern Europe. The delay is caused by TWR Arrows which has the exclusive use of Bridgestone tyres for 1996. Paul Stewart stated that he believes that this car is the first car to have been designed and created completely by computer.

To avoid disappointments we have to state that contrary to what the organisers have previously claimed Jos will NOT appear at the "Auto & Motor Salon", to be held in Rotterdam on December 20 thru 22.
