Jos pleased with Max’ solid performance in race debut

Published on 16 March 2015 by Mike Motilall

Max Verstappen’s father Jos, was equally disappointed in Max having to retire from the Australian Grand Prix. The plume of smoke from the STR10 however, could not hide the strong performance the 17-year old Scuderia Toro Rosso driver showcased. Jos: “It is such a pity that Max had to drop out of his Formula 1 maiden race due to engine issues. Because up to that point, he was displaying a solid performance and he could have even progressed further.”

“Despite that, all in all it was a good weekend in Melbourne. Max never made a mistake and displayed a strong performance in the race until the moment he suffered an engine failure”, says Jos. The cause of his engine failure was due to a faulty spark plug. “Notwithstanding what happened, I am very pleased with Max’ race debut, I really am.”

The first race weekend of 2015 has also proven several things. Jos continues: “Toro Rosso has built an incredibly good car. I am very happy with that. We are only lacking raw speed on the straights." It is a fact that the engine supplier Renault, has a lot of catching up to do, compared to the competition. ”It is what it is. But the most important thing for Max is, that he learns as much as possible and gains as much experience as he can. That is why he is driving for Toro Rosso.”
