Frans Verstappen, better known as “Opa” (granddad) Verstappen invites motor racing fans to watch this year’s Formula 1 races in his hometown, Montfort. Next to Frans’ ice cream parlour, a gazebo with TVs, food and drinks will provide the perfect setting to support Max Verstappen in his debut season.

For the upcoming Grand Prix (Bahrein), fans are welcome from 3pm (GMT+1) onwards. The race starts at 5pm. Frans has thought about everything, including parking facilities so it is well worth coming to Montfort in the south of the Netherlands.

Watching the Verstappens race is a tradition that started when Jos raced in F1. Frans: “During the Chinese Grand Prix, the atmosphere was amazing. Everyone is really passionate and Max raised the roof after every overtake. And he have us a great race last week.”

Despite years of supporting both Jos and Max, Frans remains nervous. “It’s always tense. It’s the same feeling seeing Max race as when Jos was still driving. I’m really proud of my grandson.”
