Rosberg tops first day of Barcelona test

Published on 12 May 2015 by Stefan Meens

On day one of the two-day collective test at Barcelona, Nico Rosberg set the quickest lap of the day. The German, who won the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, lapped the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in a 1:24.374, two seconds faster than Marcus Ericsson. The Sauber driver ended the day in second.

Scuderia Toro Rosso gave Red Bull Junior Pierre Gasly the opportunity to make his Formula 1 début. The Frenchman clocked the seventh fastest lap. The STR driver was not the quickest rookie of the day. That honour when to Raffaele Marciello, who drove for Ferrari. The Italian will switch to Sauber for tomorrow’s test day.

The other rookie hitting the track was Nick Yelloly. His début came sooner than expected with Force India's scheduled driver, Pascal Wehrlein, not feeling well enough to drive. The Mercedes protégée is however still listed to take over driving duties from Nico Rosberg on Wednesday, with Esteban Ocon driving the Force India.
