Max does demo at Spa-Francorchamps

Published on 31 May 2015 by Mike Motilall

Max Verstappen is present this weekend at the challenging circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, to do different demo’s at the World Series by Renault-event. The two-day event is stacked: apart from other classes, the Renault Clio Cup and the Formula Renault 2.0 and 3.5 will also be seen in action.

On Saturday, Max more than showed that his crash during the Grand Prix in Monaco, did not have any lasting effect on him whatsoever. Max drove a solid race in the streets of the principality, but this was unfortunately and prematurely ended due to a crash in Ste. Dévote with Romain Grosjean. “I feel fine after my crash during the Grand Prix in Monaco and I don’t have any problems. There is no permanent damage or anything; or else I wouldn’t have gone karting in Genk this week.”

On the track in the Belgian Ardennes, Max was present to do two demo’s for Infiniti Red Bull Racing in a Red Bull F1-showcar from a couple of years ago. Driving with a current Formula 1-car is, according to rules and regulations, beside the regular race weekends and official test days, limited to just a couple of filming days with a maximum of 50 kilometers. These normally take place away from the public’s eye.

Before Max got aboard the Formula 1-car, the 17-year old talent did some ten laps in the Renault R.S. 01. This circuit car has been outfitted with a 3.8-liter V6, 500 bhp engine and it should be able to reach a top speed of 200 mph. Max took some invitees for a couple of laps around the track and was pleased about the car. “The Renault R.S. 01 is a fun car to drive in and has a lot more downforce than I expected”, Max relays.

Then he took Red Bull Racing’s RB8 for a spin. This Formula 1-car is from 2012 and still has the oldskool noisy V8. Max didn’t do the entire track as this would have taken too much time. From Eau Rouge, he took the straight to Les Combes, then turn around to drive in opposite direction to La Source. With some spectacular donuts he also amused the crowd. “It is a bit strange to take on Eau Rouge in that way, because you see the turn quite late. But I took it easy down there. The old V8 is quite noisy which is good fun for the crowd, but the current Formula 1-cars are more powerful and faster by now”, Max concludes.

On Sunday, Max is once again to be found at Spa-Francorchamps, to do a similar routine as on Saturday. For those wanting to see Max doing his thing, on his own turf, we can only advise them to come and have a look on 28 June in Zandvoort. During Italia a Zandvoort, Max will show his skills in a Formula 1-car. Father Jos Verstappen will also board a Formula 1-car, the Minardi PS03, to entertain the crowd even more with a spectacular demonstration.

Tickets for this event, on Sunday 28 June, are only € 12,50 during pre-sale. Order your tickets at news.verstappen.com or www.circuit-zandvoort.nl.
