Max seventh in FP2 Silverstone: "A good day"

Published on 03 July 2015 by Stefan Meens

After finishing the first practice session for the British Grand Prix in third, Max Verstappen continued his encouraging run around the Silverstone circuit with seventh place in FP2. Nico Rosberg remained at the top of the timing sheets ahead of the two Ferrari's and his team mate.

Max: “We can be happy with today, especially if we consider that this was my first time driving an F1 car at such a difficult track as Silverstone. I’m satisfied with our pace and how the day went. Of course, we still have some work to do tonight on the set-up, but in general it was a good start to the weekend.”

Like the rest of his colleagues, Max starts the session on the harder of the two Pirelli compounds. Right from the start, the Dutchman shows pace and throughout the session heremains near the top of the table.

Fifteen minutes into FP2, the first red flag of the session is waved. Romain Grosjean is the culprit. The Frenchman beached his Lotus in the gravel traps at Luffield. But Grosjean is not the only one caught out by this particular section. Right after the session is resumed, Fernando Alonso hits the gravel at Luffield. In true rally fashion the McLaren driver drifts his way back on track, preventing another red flag.

Meanwhile, Max continues to put in good times. Near the halfway mark, he clocks his quickest lap of FP2 (1:35.300), set on the medium tyres. With 30 minutes on the clock, Scuderia Toro Rosso's focus shifts to long runs. Again, Max shows good pace and is able to consistently lap the course in 1:39s.

Unfortunately he has to abort the stint due to a red flag. Once again, Luffield is the scene of the crime with Roberto Mehri stuck in the gravel. After the Marussia is removed and the track is given the all clear, Max heads out on a set of used mediums before finishing the day practising starts on the main straight and pit stops.
