Verstappen after his 'no': “Nothing has changed between Sainz and me”

Published on 24 September 2015 by Mike Motilall

“I really enjoyed my race in Singapore. Of course the start was disappointing, but from there on we had a great pace in the car. We kept pushing, catching up the guys in front of me. In the end to come back in points, is just a great result. I am very happy with that", Max tells at the FIA press conference in Japan.

The, still 17-year old, Scuderia Toro Rosso driver is accompanied by Valtteri Bottas (Williams), Jenson Button (McLaren), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India), Will Stevens (Marussia) and Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) on the challenging circuit of Suzuka.

Of course was Max’ ‘no’ during the race on the Marina Bay street circuit four days ago, the talk of the town. Toro Rosso asked Max to let his team mate Carlos Sainz pass, which ultimately was never complied to. “Nothing has changed in our relationship”, Max relays. “I was trying to overtake Perez and was very close. I was also looking in my mirrors as well, but it didn’t feel that Carlos was close enough to give it a go, so I decided to stay there. Afterwards we had a conversation about it in the team and everything has been cleared.”

A lesson was learned from the situation: “We need to be more clear on the radio. We spoke about it and hopefully it won’t happen again. We are ready to go again here in Japan”, says the youngster, feisty as always.
