Max thinks he has a better chance in the wet

According to the meterologists, the Formula 1-circus is bound to get a wet weekend. In Austin, some heavy rainfall is forecasted. Max hasn’t driven a wet race yet, but he has done some free practices in the rain as well as qualifying. Nevertheless, Max is confident that he will fare well, maybe even excel. In wet conditions, the playfield is equal and the men from the boys are separated.

“It has to do with feeling. In wet conditions you need to drive more careful. It is also more difficult, because the track is slippier and the risks are even greater. Because of aquaplaning chances of crashing is tremendous. It is also more fatiguing: in dry conditions, you can sometimes relax a bit on the straights, but in the wet, there is not even a moment rest”, Max tells the press at the Circuit of the Americas.

When is a car strong in the rain? “When it steers correctly and when you have good traction. The times I drove on a track in wet conditions, I immediately noticed that that was not an issue with us. I think we, at Toro Rosso, have more chance in the rain. But then it shouldn’t be raining the whole weekend, because then everybody will prepare themselves and the advantage will be lost. I am looking forward to it”.
