Max considers slippery tarmac in Mexico-city to be advantageous for STR

High-speed corners is what he prefers the most and not just because the STR10 is very good with those. Yet, Max Verstappen won’t find many on Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. According to the Scuderia Toro Rosso-driver, the slippery track in Mexico will suit their car.
“I think it will be a bit slippery. The track looks a bit like Sochi and the stories I’ve heard, suggests that even this year it was very slippery”, says Max. Getting the tyres up to temperature will be a struggle. Pirelli has chosen to bring the medium and soft compound tyres. "I think they should have brought the soft and supersoft. But the slippery surface is going to help.”
“With such a long straight, we will have to compensate our downforce; meaning we cannot use as much aerodynamics as we would actually want to. Our car performs well in slippery conditions and with high-speed corners. Unfortunately there aren’t many fast corners here, but it shouldn’t be that bad. In Singapore, for example, things were not too bad and we also had a lot of low-speed corners there.”
Some rain is more than welcome, Max says laughingly: “We need to do a rain dance! In Austin the rain really helped us, so hopefully we can have some here as well. So far, it has rained every day. Around 3pm or 4pm, or even a little later. Hopefully on Sunday, it will start a bit earlier. Say around 1pm or 1:30 pm or so.”
