Mexican Grand Prix build up

Upcoming weekend marks the first time since 1992 that the Formula 1 World Championships visits the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez. Back then, Max Verstappen was not even born and his father Jos was competing in only his first year in motor sports.

The circuit is located in Mexico City, with almost nine million inhabitants one of the biggest cities in the world. The Grand Prix is promised a special welcome with over 200.000 fans expected to attend the race.

The race track is completely renewed and is characterised by its high speed nature with top speeds exceeding Monza’s. This is down to the circuit being at altitude, which means the air is thinner and thinner air drags less on the aerodynamics. However, getting turbo engines to work well at altitude will be a tricky technical challenge.

Meanwhile, both Scuderia Toro Rosso drivers have acclimatised to their new surroundings after visiting the lake near Xochimilco, accompanied by the inevitable Mariachi band.

In terms of physical preparation, both Max and Carlos have trained with high intensity with the aim of keeping a high heart rate. One of the exercises was a game of ‘padel tennis’, a popular game in Mexico and South America, against their personal trainers.
