Max: “We want to make miles and work on the setup of the car”

On the eve of the second four day test session on Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, we take a look back with Max Verstappen on his first days in the STR11. The Scuderia Toro Rosso-driver is very pleased with the great many miles that were driven. In two days’ time, it even amounted to 231 laps for Max. “Your muscles always need to get used to a first day again, no matter how hard you train. But after my second day in the car, it was not such a big deal anymore, so that’s quite positive.”

Last weekend, between both tests, Max mixed business with pleasure. “I trained a lot, I will keep doing that very hard. I also visited Barcelona. Despite having seen the city a few times before already, it still remains beautiful.”

Tuesday, and on Thursday as well, Max will start his run again in the 2016-car. His Spanish team mate, Carlos Sainz, will do the honours on Wednesday and Friday, in his native country. Will there be any updates to be expected despite the brief pause? “We have different new stuff on the car, but on the exterior it won’t be all that different.”

The colours will be completely new, instead of an all blue car, Toro Rosso will now be running the 2016-livery. The official presentation of the car is Tuesday morning, after which Max will put it through its paces.

What is, after your first encounter last week, the target now, we ask him in conclusion. “It is important to cover a lot of miles again. But now with the other compound tyres as well, as oppose to only the mediums. Apart from driving a lot, we are also going to focus on the new parts and the setup of the car. Those are our main targets.”
