The Brazilian Grand Prix was won after a restart by Jacques Villeneuve, Gerhard Berger got a well deserved second place and Olivier Panis had a magnificent third place. Jos had promised his mother-in-law to finish which he did. He became 15th, teammate Salo 13th. Frentzen disappointed heavily with a ninth place and Coulthard also wasn't able to impress with a 10th place. Michael Schumacher defended the German honor by becoming fifth because brother Ralf again didn't finish.
Jos had a very good start the first time. In the restart though he had a very bad start, almost stalling his engine. Jos as well as Mika were glad with their first finish but were disappointed with the top speed of the car. Due to the fact that his seating position in the car is still not completely to Jos' satisfaction he had trouble with his elbows. The fastest lap time of Jos was 1:20.274 and Salo had a fastest lap time of 1:20.376.
