All Renault-powered drivers get upgraded engine in Singapore

Published on 16 September 2016 by Niels Hendrix

Late Friday Renault has decided all four of its Formula 1 drivers will use its upgraded power unit over the remainder of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. Max Verstappen ran with the new system during Friday practice at the Marina Bay street circuit.

Renault managing director Cyril Abiteboul had stated Ricciardo, Magnussen and Palmer would not receive the upgrade until the next race in Malaysia. However, it has now been determined those three drivers will all use it from final practice in Singapore on Saturday.

Crucially, the area of development on which the tokens have been used means there is no need for a complete replacement power unit, ensuring all four drivers are now on a par in terms of systems used.
