Max looks back: “Enjoyed overtaking in Singapore”

Max Verstappen started his Grand Prix weekend in Singapore with the fastest time in the first free practice and the third fastest in the second session. “Looking back at Singapore, I think Friday was really good. I enjoyed it a lot and the speed was there”, says the Dutch Red Bull Racing-driver.
“Even the practice session on Saturday was good. And even though qualifying didn’t work out like it should have been, we were still up there in the top four. I am pretty pleased with that. We still had a lot to look forward to, but unfortunately at the start of the race we lost a lot of time. Then I had to avoid a spinning car so I lost even more momentum”, as Max explains his troublesome getting off the line due to issues with his clutch and Nico Hülkenberg’s crash at the start.
“From then on it was a difficult race, getting stuck behind people. We tried to do some different strategies. In the end I had some good fights, with good overtakes. For sure P6 is not where we want to finish, but at least I enjoyed the overtaking.”
Max concludes: “It was a nice weekend in general: the track in Singapore is always very special to drive on. It was also nice to see so many fans out there. In the end, for the team to come away with a podium is of course very positive. That definitely means we are improving. Looking forward to the next one!”
That will be in a week-and-a-half in Malaysia, but first Max has a day in the simulator this week at Red Bull Racing in Milton Keynes. There he can prepare himself for the race at Kuala Lumpur as well as the race in Japan (Suzuka), the week after.
