Max and Daniel in Kaido Racer through Tokyo

Published on 05 October 2016 by Niels Hendrix

Fresh from their one-two finish in Malaysia, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo were in Tokyo today to meet Red Bull Japan at their offices, before having the opportunity to cruise around the city in something uniquely Japanese: a Kaido Racer.

Built from scratch by the owner Souki, the custom-made, low-rider was presented to the Red Bull duo outside the Red Bull Japan offices for a Tokyo drive with a difference. Being a one-off, unique model and pretty different to the cars the guys are used to driving, the owner explained the model and showed how to drive it before Daniel and Max took the car through the streets of Tokyo to the well-known district of Shibuya and its famous crossing.

There was a lot of interest in the car as it drove around, with pedestrians taking pictures and fans trying to get selfies with the drivers. It was definitely a different way to have a look around the city!

Once parked up in Shibuya, Daniel said: “It's pretty cool. It's low! Every bump I'm scared, but it's really nice and we have some good beats going so I feel like it's setting the trend. We're getting a lot of looks and the chicks love it.”

Max added: “I'm not the driver today, I let Daniel drive as I prefer to be the passenger, but everyone is looking at us while we are driving, the colours are alright. I mean orange, that's always good!”

The guys then cruised back to the Red Bull Japan offices, safely delivering the car back to the (probably pretty relieved) owner who saw his car return unscathed from its journey at the hands of two F1 winners.

After a quick Japanese lunch, Max headed off to get the Bullet Train to Suzuka and his more normal ride, while Daniel has another night in the capital before joining his team-mate in Suzuka tomorrow.
