Max fifth in final Interlagos practice
Published on 12 November 2016 by Stefan Meens
Max Verstappen finished the final practice session of the Brazilian Grand Prix in fifth. The Dutchman was beaten by both Mercedes and both Ferraris with Nico Rosberg setting the fastest lap. Max’ Red Bull Racing team mate Daniel Ricciardo ended the session in sixth.
Shortly before the final practice ahead of qualifying gets under way, the track is still damp. When the lights go out, a minor drizzle forces the drivers to do their early laps on wet weather tires.
Eventually, the track dries up and the lap times are starting to drop. Twenty minutes into FP3, Max starts his first run. On the medium compound, the youngster sets encouraging lap times whilst most other drivers are lapping the Interlagos track on the faster, soft compound.
With twenty minutes left on the clock, all the teams prepare for qualifying simulations. Daniel Ricciardo is the first driver to clock a flying lap on a new set of the soft Pirellis. Max soon follows to set the quickest lap thus far but sees both Mercedes and Ferraris beat his time in the closing stage of FP3.
