Max Verstappen claimed two prizes at the prestigious FIA Priza Giving Gala. The 19-year-old Red Bull Racing driver took home the “Action of the Year” trophy for the third year in row. The “Personality of the Year” award went also to Max, who won the trophy last year as well, in his debut Formula 1 season.
“To be awarded to FIA prizes again is wonderful recognition. Personally I’m very happy with my second season in F1. I really enjoyed it. When it started, I didn’t think it was going to be this good. My first win was incredibly special. My other highlight was the rain race in Brazil. All amazing moments”, said Max to Verstappen.nl.
With 204 point, the Dutchman ended the year in fifth place for the championship. “Red Bull Racing is an amazing team to work with and we really get on well. Hopefully we can be even more successful next year. We’re working hard to progress but we’ll have to wait and see until the first run. I can’t wait to get going.”
The first award the Dutchman collected at the Imperial Hofburg Palace in Vienna, was the “Personality of the Year” accolade, decided by the accredited press. The second award was perhaps the most special as the “Action of the Year” is chosen by fans. They were able to chose from nine overtakes from various racing series. Max’ entry was his breathtaking manoeuvre on Nico Rosberg in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The rest of the evening focussed on crowing the various FIA champions with reigning F1 champion Nico Rosberg stealing the limelight after announcing his retirement from the sport earlier in the day.
