Jos Verstappen regarding Max’ dominant race in Mexico: “Very awesome”

Published on 30 October 2017 by Mike Motilall

After all the commotion at the race in Austin, father Jos Verstappen saw his son Max take revenge, in the best possible way, one week later in Mexico. With a flawless and dominant race, the youngster secured his third win in Formula 1. The twenty-year-old Red Bull Racing-driver, ruled supreme from turn two till the checkered flag and marked this race as ‘one of my easiest ever’ afterwards.

“He did an awesome job”, Jos starts off in Peptalk on Ziggo Sport. “If you look at how he divided the race and how easily he was able to achieve those lap times, just awesome, very awesome.”

“I haven’t really forgotten what the situation was a few months ago, most definitely not. The team hasn’t either. We want to win, they want to win, we have put everything on the line, the team has also and this is the result. If you look at the car they had at the start of the season and the car they now have, then you’re able to see what a top team they are.”

“They have made some changes to the car that are right up Max’ alley. And from that moment on, Max is clearly showing just that. From then on they have been very competitive in the race.”

Looking ahead at the closing stages of the season, Jos has this to say: “Well Brazil, we saw last year how things can go, we’re hoping for a little rain. But even there you have a very long straight where the competition will have the upper hand, but regarding race trim, things should look okay.”

In conclusion, together with Jos the start of the race in Mexico is looked at again: “The start was just good, Max said, and then you just need to get a good tow on Vettel. Then Max passes by, and then you see Hamilton pass by, what more do you want? That is what Formula 1 wants to see. To the point that the drivers get squeezed in turns one, two and three, and that is what you see happen. Really a nice moment.”
