Today Jos has tested the new Ford Cosworth ED5 engine for the first time at the circuit of Silverstone. Jos drove a total of 28 laps, the engine has to be spared for it will be used in Barcelona too. Jos told us that the engine feels good and that the engine is somewhere in the range of 0,3 to 0,4 seconds per lap faster on the circuit of Silverstone. Yesterday Mika Salo and Toranosuke Takagi each drove some laps with the new engine. At the Spanish Grand Prix the new engine will be used for the first time in qualifying and the race.

The FIA announced today that the last Grand Prix of the year, scheduled for October 26, to be held at Estoril Portugal will be replaced by the European Grand Prix, held in Jerez, Spain. The reason for the replacement is that the FIA is uncertain about the status of the work required at the Estoril circuit. The FIA hopes that works at the Estoril circuit will be completed soon and that the Portuguese Grand Prix will re-appear on the World Championship calendar in the near future. The first Grand Prix hosted at Jerez was the Spanish Grand Prix on April 13, 1986, won by Ayrton Senna. The last Grand Prix hosted was the 1994 European Grand Prix on October 16, won by Michael Schumacher.
