Pirelli, Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier, has announced the tyre choices the F1-teams have made for the Austrian Grand Prix. On the Red Bull Ring, the drivers have at their disposal the soft, super-soft and ultra-soft compound tyres.
Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo have both opted to run on two sets of the softs, three sets of the super-softs and eight sets of the ultra-softs for the race weekend at Spielberg. Mercedes has also gone for the same strategy albeit that Valtteri Bottas has swapped a set of the softs for an extra set of the red stripped tyre. Ferrari has taken a more aggressive approach, they will be running on nine sets of the ultra-softs.
Just like for the French Grand Prix, Williams has gone for no less than ten sets of the ultra-soft compound tyre. Renault has taken the same course as the British team. From all the teams, Haas is the only one to have chosen the least amount of ultra-softs. Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen have both opted for seven sets of the ultra-soft compound tyre. Conversely, Grosjean is the one with the most super-softs to his name, five sets.
