Max about DTM at Zandvoort: 'If I could, I would have gone'

On 13, 14 and 15 July Circuit Zandvoort will once again be the host of DTM, the leading European touring car competition. For the 19th year in succession, the DTM will visit the circuit in the Dutch dunes, where the DTM weekend is traditionally one of the biggest events of the season.
Again, there are two races scheduled, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. This year there will also be Dutch input: Robin Frijns will compete for the victory on behalf of Audi. The FIA European Championship Formula 3, the Supercar Challenge and the GT & Prototype Challenge are also part of the line-up.
Tickets are available via www.dtm.com. For more info visit www.circuitzandvoort.nl and www.dtm.com.
“I always love to go to Circuit Zandvoort”, says Max Verstappen. “There have been some exciting races and it is a great track with a lot of history. It is a proper old-school racetrack, really challenging. I also have some fond memories myself: I’ve won the Zandvoort Masters and have also done some show runs in a Formula 1-car.”
Max shares his thoughts about one of the biggest touring car championships: “DTM is a great racing class. I was able to follow it very closely during my Formula 3-period in 2014. The teams are very close to one another. Every weekend you can expect a different winner, which is of course very positive.”
Last year, Max visited the DTM weekend at Zandvoort. “Unfortunately, due to my busy calendar that won’t be possible this year. If I could, I would have gone! But when I am at home and have some free time, I always watch the race. It is fun to watch and there is a lot of action.”
With six cars each from the Audi, BMW and Mercedes-AMG brands, the DTM traditionally offers touring car racing of the highest level. As of this year, the technical regulations have been slightly modified, including a reduction of aerodynamics. As the first races of this season already showed, this has led to more action and exciting fights on track. The first six races produced five different winners and a total of ten drivers finishing on the podium.
The action starts on Friday with free practices of all classes, while on Saturday the first races are held, supplemented with remaining practices. On Sunday there is a well-filled program with practices and races. For the fans there are also many additional activities, such as pit walks, autograph sessions and interviews with drivers in the fan village. Fans with paddock tickets have access to the so-called pit view area from where you have a very close look at into the DTM pit garages.
