Max: 'Winning in Hungary will be tough'

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen evaluated his chances for the final race before the summer break: “It’s one of the smaller tracks and every track that suits our car, suits me better. But as a driver, I don’t think I’m better at one track compared to another. Regarding the Hungaroring, the first sector has a couple of straights; we’ll lose time there. The second sector is the best for us. The third and final sector is OK for us. So we have to make sure we’re fastest there.”
Max is coy about his chances for victory. “It’s going to be difficult. In Monaco the differences in engines were smaller than they are now. It’ll be difficult to go for pole, but I think we’ll be close. And unless things go wrong for others, you really have to start from pole to win. From second it’s already a difficult challenge.”
“Nevertheless, I’ll try to win every race. However, it would be wrong to put more pressure on myself to get a good result knowing we have better chances here. I always want to do well. Even when we go to Monza, and I don’t expect the win, I’ll go there motivated to put in a result.”
Singapore and Hungary are often named as the circuits which suit Aston Martin Red Bull Racing best. “I think we’ll have our best shot in Singapore. It’s more of a street circuit so you can make more of a difference as a driver. Also, looking back to last year, we were closer in qualifying in Singapore, compared to Hunagry.”
The Hungarian Grand Prix is the final race before the summer break. “We didn’t have the best of starts this season but we’ve turned things round. Hopefully we can keep developing the car. On the engine front, it's going to be difficult; we don’t control that aspect. But hopefully we can keep taking steps, also with next year in mind.”
