Heinz Harald Frentzen will start from pole ...

Heinz Harald Frentzen will start from pole position tomorrow at the Grand Prix of Monaco, with on second place Michael Schumacher. Jos became 22nd after a disappointing qualification.

In his first flying lap, Jos hit the barrier with his rear wheel , his car was out of control and he damaged his car. A very expensive mistake because he could only restart his qualification 20 minutes before the end in the spare car. With a time of (1:21.290) he was less than 2 tenth of a second slower than in the morning free practice. Mika Hakkinen made almost the same error on the same spot Jos did. Heinz Harald Frentzen took a beautiful pole (1:18.216) ahead of Michael Schumacher (1:18.235) and Jaques Villeneuve (1:18.583). Schumacher and Villeneuve tried to get the pole at an exciting end of the qualifying on which Villeneuve hit the barrier very hard and damaged the rear of his car. In the last minute, Schumacher tried it once more but he came more than 1 tenth of a second short on Frentzen. A complete overview of the times can be found on our season page.
