Heinz Harald Frentzen will start from pole position tomorrow at the Grand Prix of Monaco, with on second place Michael Schumacher. Jos became 22nd after a disappointing qualification.

In his first flying lap, Jos hit the barrier with his rear wheel , his car was out of control and he damaged his car. A very expensive mistake because he could only restart his qualification 20 minutes before the end in the spare car. With a time of (1:21.290) he was less than 2 tenth of a second slower than in the morning free practice. Mika Hakkinen made almost the same error on the same spot Jos did. Heinz Harald Frentzen took a beautiful pole (1:18.216) ahead of Michael Schumacher (1:18.235) and Jaques Villeneuve (1:18.583). Schumacher and Villeneuve tried to get the pole at an exciting end of the qualifying on which Villeneuve hit the barrier very hard and damaged the rear of his car.
