Due to a problem with the air pressure system of the gearbox Jos could only drive a for a very short time in the second free practice session from 10.15 to 11.00 hrs., so he wasn't able to improve on his very good time of the first session of this morning. In the combined list of this morning Jos only reached to an 18th time (1:21.124). Salo was able to improve a little and came to 1:20.516, which put him on a 15th spot. In the end it was Heinz-Harald Frentzen who was fastest with 1:18.370, chased by Fisichella (!), Villeneuve, Hakkinen, Alesi and Coulthard.

After 9 minutes Johnny Herbert parked his car backwards in the railing, damaging his rear wing. Nine minutes before the end of the session Magnussen stops his car at the end of the straigth and in the last couple of minutes Berger crashes near the swimming pool. The plan of the Tyrrell team for the qualifying session this afternoon is that Jos will be driving the intermediate engine, the ED 4 1/2. The qualifying session is held from 13.00 to 14.00 hrs. and will be broadcasted live by RTL4 TV.
