Max remains a rain aficionado: 'In Hungary we had a problem'

There is no chance for a rainshower at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. As far as Max is concerned, it’s a pity, as he talks with Olav Mol during Ziggo Formule 1 Café about why they were struggling on a wet track in Hungary. “We had a problem with the floor and the car. It felt like we were driving the entire lap with our DRS open, in the rain. Apart from that, I was also having an issue with the car that there was more weight on one side of the car than the other. That should be alright now”, Max reassures us.

The past few years, Formula 1-cars have kept getting more and more grip and downforce. The infamous turn Eau Rouge is nowadays flat out and Pouhon is also heading the same way. “I haven’t tried it there yet”, says Max. “You just need to lift a little, but it will still remain very difficult to take Pouhon flat out considering the smaller rear wing we are using here.”

With a setup for little downforce, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing is trying to compensate for the lack of speed on the straight. Isn’t it frustrating, the lack of horsepowers? “It’s been like that the past four years, at a certain point you get used to it. We know where our opportunities are, but always try to make the best of it. We will try to finish the season well, and given everything, we are looking forward to next year.”

Max continues: “Honda is enormously motivated and is pushing Red Bull to deliver material so that they can develop and test. Honda is on the right track. For sure it will be better next year compared to what we have now.”
